KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Reach Sober Living, an 501 (C)(3) non-profit aiming to offer support to those on recovery journeys, is set to open another location in Kalamazoo.
Once occupied by Patricia White Interiors, the organization’s newest space on South Westnedge Avenue is set to become it’s fourth house, according to organizers.
“It takes years of searching and planning to find the right opportunity and location for each of our projects,” Chris Pompey, Chief Executive Officer of Reach Sober Living, said. “We are extremely grateful that Mrs. White chose to sell her beautiful property to a cause that will serve the community in a meaningful way.”
Boasting 4,637-square-feet of space, the home featuring eight bedrooms is currently undergoing kitchen and bathroom renovations, organizers said.
Once open, the Westnedge house will join Reach Sober Living’s existing and in-progress housing, which include the following:
- Reach House, the organization’s first housing offering which opened in 2020.
- The Villas at Engleman, a more independent option for men with a minimum of one year of sobriety, which is expected to open in early 2025.
- The Thompson House, a duplex for married couples in recovery with the mission of allowing families in recovery to live as a family unit. Reach Sober Living is currently raising funds and seeking funding partners for this development. The Thompson House expects to welcome its first family in early 2026.
To be eligible to move into the space, residents must be male, have completed a 30-day substance abuse treatment program, be 30 days or more clean and sober, and have a sponsor, according to organizers.
Reach Sober Living also takes referrals from community partners based on specific criteria, organizers said.
“Even though we’re expanding, we understand that Reach and its sober living options aren’t for everyone,” Pompey said. “Applicants must meet criteria to live in our homes. Once residents, they will have chores, attend weekly one-on-one meetings with staff, and be fully employable, if not employed.”
Reach Sober Living’s newest property is expected to open to residents in the winter.
In the meantime, community members interested in learning more about Reach Sober Living are invited to an open house on Nov. 18 at 203 S. Westnedge Avenue.
This event is open to the public, and runs from 1-4 p.m., according to organizers.
